Candlelight Concerts 2019: Another One for the Hall of “Flame”

December is the time for wrapping things up. I’ve been wrapping up gifts for my family, Spotify has wrapped up my most-listened-to songs into a playlist (Panic! at the Disco was my #1 artist…again), and VWC has wrapped up another semester. The latter half of the semester has been filled with non-stop rehearsing, bonding during sisterhood events, and, possibly, breaking my personal record for “cups of tea consumed in a day”. Here is a recap of the past month and a half or so leading up to Candlelight Concerts!

We hit the ground running, or, should I say, hiking with a VWC tradition: a sunrise hike up Humpback before enjoying pancakes at the Pancakes for Parkinson’s fundraiser. I believe that all Vdubz were in agreement that next year’s hike will need to take place earlier than November, but the cold air certainly got us in the right mindset for singing about snow and wintertime.

A week later, we found ourselves rising early (not as early as sunrise, but still early for those of us who aren’t morning people) again to sing a few pieces from our Candlelight Concert repertoire in the downtown mall. In addition to using our vocal talent to publicize for Candlelight Concerts, we also spent time putting up posters at any establishment that would take them!

And, of course, we added another layer of paint to Beta Bridge!

After Thanksgiving, we really hit the ground running with preparing for Candlelight Concerts. Unfortunately, due to Thanksgiving break being so late this year, the concerts took place right before finals, so the words to movement 5 of  The Snow Angel weren’t the only thing I was frantically memorizing that week. Despite the business of the last week of classes, we gave 110% of our effort into putting on two spectacular concerts for our friends, families, and members of the community who came to listen.

I may not have 2020 vision, but I am confident that the future of the chorus for next year is brighter than the candles that lit up St. Paul’s for our concerts. Stay tuned for what’s to come in the year ahead!

Vdubz love,

Mackenna
